    Description

This hoof gauge, divider and rule was used by blacksmiths and farriers for determining the exact hoof angle and toe length so that a corresponding pair of hooves can be trimmed the same length and angle. First seen in use in the 1800s, gauges like these are still used by traditional farriers, particularly those who still make their own shoes. Technology has offered what some consider to be improvements with laser hoof gauges and rulers, but ones like this are tried and true and part of the heritage of the blacksmith. Solid brass with workable gauge, excellent condition, no manufacturer marks or stamps, c1970s. Measures 6 inches long x 4 ½ inches wide x 5 ½ inches tall.
